Dr José-Alfonso Abecia, Dip.ECSRHM, a graduate (DVM) and postgraduate (PhD) of the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Zaragoza, Spain, has undertaken postdoctoral studies at the Macaulay Institute, Aberdeen, and currently is Professor of Animal Production in the same Faculty. He has supervised eight PhD theses, all approved with the maximum qualification (cum laude). He is principal researcher of four projects funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Spain in the field of sheep reproduction and several grants funded by the private sector about electronic identification of sheep and goats. He has published over 60 refereed papers and is currently an Editor of Animal (physiology and functional biology of systems section). He has acted as secretary of the Spanish Society of Sheep and Goat Production (SEOC) and, at present, is editor-in-chief of the official journal of the Society (Pequeños Rumiantes).
