
Dr Paula
I. Menzies, DVM, MPVM, Dip ECRHM, is currently associate professor in
Ruminant Health Management, Department of Population Medicine, where
she is responsible for teaching veterinary students small ruminant
health management. She is a member of the Ruminant Field Service group
and provides veterinary care to the practice’s clients: cattle, sheep,
goats, which is used to train final year DVM students. Moreover, she is
the Small Ruminant Research Coordinator for the University of Guelph.
Her research interests focus on many aspects of small ruminant health
management; current and recent initiatives involve research and
extension work in the following areas: flock health management and
biosecurity programs, drug use and antimicrobial resistance in sheep
flocks, diagnosis and control of caseous lymphadenitis, development of
maedi-visna control, udder health management of dairy sheep and goats,
prevalence of Q-fever in humans and small ruminants, diagnosis and
control of Johne’s disease in dairy small ruminants.
