
Dr Peter
Windsor, DVSc, PhD, GradCertEdStud, DipECSRHM, is Professor of
Livestock Health and Production in the Faculty of Veterinary Science at
the University of Sydney, NSW Australia. He is a registered specialist
veterinary surgeon (Pathobiology, European Veterinary Specialist in
Small Ruminant Health Management) and has published over 100 scientific
papers in peer-reviewed journals, 8 book chapters and several hundred
contributions to the rural press. Prior to joining Sydney University in
2002, Peter worked for NSW Agriculture, Cornell University, San Diego
Zoo and FAO, in both laboratory diagnostic and field disease
surveillance roles. Currently, he contributes to undergraduate
and postgraduate teaching in grazing ruminant health management. He has
supervised successfully eight PhD theses; currently, he supervises six
PhD students, several Master students and numerous undergraduate
students on research projects in small and large ruminant health,
production and welfare in Australia and south east Asia. This work,
funded by competitive industry and government research grants, includes
ovine paratuberculosis control, analgesia for routine husbandry, bovine
neosporosis epidemiology, ruminant genetic disease investigations and
improvement of cattle and buffalo health and productivity in Lao PDR
and Cambodia. His aim is to promote global citizenship in addressing
endemic and emerging animal and human health issues in the region and
beyond.
